Miguel Díaz Vizoso , born June 14, 1969, is a Spanish- Belgian cartoonist and comic book writer . He worked as an educator in a medical-pedagogical institute for ten years before moving towards the world of comics . He became known in the early 2000s by collaborating on the drawings of The Smurfs , a Belgian comic strip series created by Peyo in 1958.
From 1989, he worked for ten years as an educator in a medical-pedagogical institute in La Louvière 2 .
In 1996, he went to the Châtelet Academy of Fine Arts where Vittorio Leonardo gave comics classes, with the aim of enrolling there. He was interested in his drawings and suggested that he take a break from his career as an educator 3 to assist him in his studio in various works, including drawing Rantanplan (1997). Miguel Diaz Vizoso assisted him for a year and resumed his work as an educator. A few months later, Vittorio Leonardo called him back to advise him to go to the Peyo studio to show his drawings. 4The Peyo studio's comics team supplied the German Smurfs magazine each month with games, posters, gags, stories and comics. However, the studio lacked a designer available to create new designs for potential licensees. 5
In 1999, the Peyo studio proposed a continuing collaboration 6 to Diaz who took advantage of his experience as an educator to enrich the collection of Smurfs albums. From this influence was born the scenario of A Child Among the Smurfs , which sees the blue elves confronted with a difficult child 7 .
In 2007, and in parallel with his work for the Peyo studio, in the company of Ludo Borecki, he proposed to Lombard to give a sequel to the adventures of Robin Dubois 8 , with the support of their creators, Bob de Groot and Turk . 9
In 2022, he signed the drawings for his seventh Smurfs album: The Smurfs and the Lost Children 10
